NC Film Community: Take Note/Action!

Hello film people!

Please take FIVE minutes out of your day right now and PLEASE EMAIL ONE OF THESE REPRESENTATIVES FROM OUR AREA BELOW! You can email one or all of them, but I suggest doing one at a time, addressing them by first name, and make it personal.

The NC Film Office just sent out urgent news that we need to email them today! (see full email below) Tomorrow will do no good! You can make it short and sweet, but tell them why film is SO IMPORTANT for you and your family and why they should vote to expand the film incentives. Again, it can be SIMPLE and let your sincerity come through.

House of Representatives List from our area: (email one or all, but make it personal! Full list is below if you want to email more.)

Below is a sample email of something I would send. Of course you need to write your own -- but just so you get the gist.:

Dear Becky,

Happy Tuesday! I hope you are doing well today. I am a film producer and actress living in Charlotte, North Carolina and I am writing to ask you to please pass the Senate Bill 943 for Expanding the Film Credit. This is so important to me and my family because I want to keep working in this state and not have to go to other states to find work, like I have been doing lately because the film incentives they offer are more competitive than ours.

Not only does the film industry support me and my family, but it brings in the sought after 'creative class' that cities need right now - young, talented, passionate, energetic individuals and their spouses, friends, and children who are committed to a quality lifestyle and making the community a great place to live and raise a family. As a member of the Charlotte Film Community - a group of 327 people in Charlotte that work in the film industry and meet together monthly to create new work, I can see how important the film business is to these people and their families. I cannot stress enough how important it is that North Carolina remain competitive with film incentives so we don't waste all of the years we spent building up a quality film base here -- including crew, directors, producers, agents, actors, writers -- just for us to possibly loose these quality people to another state!

I respect your position and thank you in advance for helping the film community be able to stay here in North Carolina so we can continue to live and work in the state that we love! Please pass Senate Bill 943!

Kindly,

NC Film Community: Take Note

Just received this form film office.
Subject: NC Film Office Updates - SPECIAL EDITION!

This week’s FYI:

NC’s Legislature is very close to adopting a budget and adjourning this session. Senate Bill 943 [Expand Film Credit] has still not passed! If there is any part of you that wants SB 943 passed--for the sake of NC’s motion picture industry, your families and livelihood in North Carolina--please EMAIL your House Representative THIS MORNING. A list of emails is below.

THIS MORNING ask your Representative to support and vote for SB 943. Not sure what to say? In a SHORT email, tell your Representative who you are, why SB 943 is important to you and ask for their VOTE. Remind them that in the wake of competition for films, other states have everything to gain and North Carolina has everything to lose.

North Carolina needs your voice now more than ever. But PLEASE KEEP YOUR EMAILS SHORT! I guarantee you, long emails will not be read. Folks, these folks are tired!

Please act THIS MORNING; tomorrow will be too late.

Confused? Have questions? Email or call me. Thank you, Sallie (919.733.9900)

Attention: Aspiring Talent

Dear Mentorees and Aspiring Talent, our Creative Director received an email which we are posting here for your encouragement. Take heart! Never give up.

"Yesterday my Samford alumni magazine arrived. It had within it an article about a Samford alumnus, Mark Willard. He has just created music, scored for the film FIREPROOF, a production of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany,GA. FIREPROOF is Sherwood's 3rd release, following FLYWHEEL and FACING THE GIANTS. The church produced all 3 films using talent primarily from the church and the community.
Willard is a 1997 Samford music graduate. He is worship pastor at Sherwood. He wrote the musical score for each of the movies. It has been a dream of his since high school to write movie scores. He is quoted as saying, "If God puts a dream in your heart and a vision to accomplish it, and it's not a selfish desire, He will fulfill it if you are faithful, pray it through and faithfully give Him your talents."
Interesting!"

Can't Make This Stuff Up

One of CGP's pre-celebrity "celebrity endorsement deals" is with Zach, General Manager of the local Beef Jerky Outlet. When I say "celebrity endorsement deals," I mean we are allowed to have our pictures made with his t-shirts and can post them on the website and on Facebook.

Also, we can venture in at will and ogle his ostrich party stix without getting the boot.

That said, let's turn our collective attention to Zack's BJO business card. In the space of a standard 2" x 3"(ish) business card, the following information is proudly proclaimed:

1. "Adjacent to the Harley Davidson Store"
2. Over 200 Varieties of Jerky
3. Samples!
4. Domain address is dojerky.com .

We at CGP are not sure how to process all of this. On the one hand, it is refreshing that Zack and Lisa are friendly to eccentrics, and thus fond of us. On the other hand, CGP are dedicated cat codependents (you knew this, move on), and we feel kind of dirty around some of their t-shirts.

Also, our children like the peanut butter sold at the jerky outlet. Go figure.

We are not sure if the very existence of this store is "good for our sobriety." We'll get back to you on that. Pictures at eleven.

More Top Tens

We love you guys! Please keep the Top Ten lists coming. Oh, my goodness, they are the funniest confessions on the internet.(I think my granny sent in today's submission.) Without further ado:

Top Ten Reasons Only Jesus Could Love Me, and everyone else has their doubts:

10. I empty the cheese biscuit basket from Red Lobster into my purse and reorder.
9. Sometimes I serve guests regular coffee, while assuring them it's decaf.
8. I buy peppermint patties at the supermarket and eat them in the car on the way home, so Idon't have to share with the kids and husband.
7. I have used canned catfood in a tuna casserole in order to stretch the servings to cover unexpected dinner guests. (Shhhh. That one is nasty, but don't judge.)
6. I once dated a plumber.
5. I have been QVC-free for eleven years; okay, ten months really.
4. I have gone to 12 Step meetings to meet new, interesting friends (but have no addiction myself).
3. If you have ever received a birthday present from me, it's a regift.

We need your input! We have been giggling like insane people at the recent email Leona received. We'd like to expand this email into an open confessional. Please feel free to send in your Top Ten Reasons Why Only Jesus Could Love Me.

This is in good fun; nothing too weird please.

Excerpt from email sent to Leona below:

10 Reasons Why Jesus Loves Me and Everyone Else Thinks I'm a Butthead:
1. I have a Hello Kitty obsession (result of a stunted adolescence).
2. I shred my coworkers paperwork for fun.
3. I take 1000 pictures of myself untill I get the right one.
4. I correct people's grammar.
5. I watch My Super Sweet Sixteen even though I am 26.
6. If I'm at a red light and someone behind me honks the second it turns green, sometimes I'll stay put until the light turns red again. (That story doesn't really end well for me.)
7. I hate it when people don't know what I want them to do without me having to tell them.
8. I can't express my feelings unless I am yelling them.
9. I'm LOUD and excitable when talking, and talk too much.
10. I have no problem embarassing my child in public.
